HEROES! Over 100 clergy and religious leaders brave freezing temps to block the road to the airport and stop deportation flights! In an inspiring act of protest, faith leaders blocked the road outside of Terminal 1 departures at the Minneapolis - Saint Paul International Airport on Friday morning, in -15 degree weather. Thousands of protestors joined them, singing "before this campaign fails, we'll all go down to jail, everybody has a right to live." Many were from the UNITE HERE Local 17 union, who have had many of their members arrested by ICE. "We are the workers, the mighty mighty workers!" and "We are under reacting" could be heard from the crowd. "We are here to tell corporations to stop being complicit with ICE!" The airport was targeted because it's the departure point for those arrested by ICE. Their poor victims are then taken to concentration camps across the United States. "This airport is the narrow end of the funnel where our neighbors are getting shipped off to God knows where," said organizer Nick Benson. "Yesterday, we hit our 2,000th estimated deportation this month." "This moment demands that we show up in solidarity, to witness what is being tested here, to learn from how communities are responding and to help bear the burden together," said Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt, president of the Unitarian Universalist Association."This is not just a local struggle. It is a test of who we are as a nation and what kind of future we will build together." ICE agents soon began making mass arrests of the clergymembers. As Trump's goons continue to terrorize our communities, our solidarity with each other is our strongest weapon. We cannot forget that only by standing together can we stop the looming onset of fascism. Let these wonderful people be an inspiration to us all! Stand against ICE!
