Pete Hegseth's Pentagon busted spending MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars on steak, lobster, and pianos while millions of Americans go hungry! The Pentagon spent more money in September 2025 - the end of the fiscal year - than in any September since 2008, burning through $93 billion in a frantic "use it or lose it" spree, according to a new analysis by government watchdog Open the Books. Under Secretary Pete Hegseth, the department signed checks left and right on luxuries that have nothing to do with warfighting: a $98,329 Steinway & Sons grand piano for the Air Force chief of staff's home, $5.3 million on Apple devices like new iPads, and an eye-watering $6.9 million in September alone. They also dropped $15.1 million on ribeye steak in September, $124,000 on ice cream machines, $139,224 on 272 orders of doughnuts (that's $500 each), and $225 million on furniture - including $12,000 for fruit basket stands and over $60,000 on Herman Miller recliners. In the last five days of September alone, the Pentagon spent $50.1 billion on grants and contracts—more than the entire annual defense budgets of Canada and Mexico combined, and more than nine other countries spend on their militaries in a full year. This came just weeks before millions of Americans lost SNAP benefits during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, with more facing cuts from Republican-added work requirements and paperwork burdens. While families struggle to eat, the Pentagon gorged on luxury food, furniture, and toys. Open the Books CEO John Hart slammed the waste. "Under Secretary Hegseth, the Pentagon has consistently said its mission is to refocus on warfighting and lethality. Last year, we highlighted the problem of wasteful use-it-or-lose-it year-end spending. This reform is fully within the secretary's control and is a historic opportunity to make good on that promise." Trump campaigned on slashing government waste since 2015. Instead, his Pentagon is drowning in debt-fueled extravagance while ordinary Americans pay the price - higher taxes, cut benefits, and a $1.8 trillion deficit in 2025 alone. If the Pentagon spending $93 billion in one month on grand pianos, lobster tails, and recliners while SNAP cuts hit families has you furious, like and share to demand accountability.
