"PAY-TO-PLAY" - $40 million Melania Trump documentary triggers Democrats to raise bribery questions for Amazon. Democratic lawmakers are demanding answers after Amazon reportedly shelled out a staggering $40 million for a documentary about Melania Trump - a deal that critics say raises serious questions about whether the tech giant was trying to curry favor with the Trump administration, a/k/a trying to bribe them. Led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Hank Johnson, a group of Democratic lawmakers just fired off a letter to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy demanding to know why the company paid what they called an "extraordinary sum" for the film Melania - especially when reports suggest Amazon isn't even expected to make its money back. And that's not all. Amazon MGM Studios reportedly spent another $35 million promoting the film, while Melania Trump herself served as an executive producer on the project. That's a massive investment for a documentary about the former first lady's life leading up to Trump's second inauguration - and lawmakers say the numbers are raising red flags. In their letter, the Democrats warned that the deal has sparked concerns that the documentary may have been less of a business decision and more of a "pay-to-play arrangement" designed to win favor with the Trump White House. Those concerns only grew after Amazon also donated $1 million to Trump's 2025 inauguration and reportedly contributed an undisclosed amount toward a $300 million White House ballroom project. "If Amazon officials made any donations or payments as part of a quid-pro-quo arrangement," the lawmakers wrote, the company "may be in violation of federal bribery law." Even behind the scenes, the documentary appears to be surrounded by controversy. According to reports, several crew members were so uncomfortable with the project that they reportedly asked to have their names removed from the credits, with one insider describing the production as "chaotic" and uncomfortable because of its propaganda tone. Now lawmakers want answers - including how Amazon approved the deal, who negotiated it, and whether there were any communications with Trump administration officials. Because when a $75 million media deal suddenly appears around a president's family - and the company behind it is also donating money to that same administration - people have every right to ask one simple question: Was this a movie deal... or political influence for sale?
