MASSIVE POWER GRAB! Trump issues new executive order that could block millions from voting.

Donald Trump has never met an illegal executive order that he didn't just love.

Trump just signed an executive order designed to make it harder for millions of Americans to vote, because frankly, that's the only way that Republicans can salvage the mid-term elections at this point.

The rapidly sundowning president is calling it "election integrity." Democrats are calling it what it actually is: voter suppression with a barcode on it.

The order requires the Department of Homeland Security - the folks behind ICE and the CBP - to build a master list of "verified" eligible voters using Social Security Administration data, then instructs the U.S. Postal Service to only send mail-in ballots to people on that list. States that don't comply could lose federal funding. The Attorney General has been directed to prosecute anyone who sends ballots to "ineligible voters."

First of all, let's be clear about who actually uses mail-in voting. Elderly Americans who can't easily get to polling places. Disabled Americans who face accessibility barriers. Active military members stationed overseas. Rural voters who live hours from their nearest polling location. Working parents who can't take time off on a Tuesday. These are the people Trump just put in the crosshairs.

And who decides who makes the DHS verified voter list? The same administration that has weaponized federal agencies against perceived political enemies, fired inspectors general, purged career officials, and used AI to surveil government employees for thoughtcrimes. That administration now wants to control who is allowed to receive a ballot.

The Social Security Administration's data is notoriously riddled with errors - the same database that DOGE already used to incorrectly flag living Americans as dead. Now that database will determine whether you get to vote.

Trump has also made clear that this is just the beginning. He's pushing the SAVE America Act through the Senate, threatening to veto all other legislation until it passes, and has floated eliminating the filibuster to ram it through. The bill would require proof of citizenship to vote - a requirement that would disenfranchise millions of eligible Americans who don't have easy access to passports or birth certificates.

Coincidentally, those Americans tend to be poor, elderly, and non-white. It could also disenfranchise married women who took their husbands' names, which won't appear on their birth certificates.

There is no evidence of widespread mail-in voter fraud. There never has been. Trump's own 2020 election fraud commission found nothing. His own Attorney General said the election wasn't stolen. Courts rejected his fraud claims more than 60 times.

This was never about fraud. It was always about Trump destroying democracy in order to hoard power and avoid being prosecuted again once he's out of the White House.

Expect lawyers for the Democratic Party to have a field day with this latest executive order. Given Trump's recent track record with federal judges, there's a good chance that the order will be shot down, at least until the battle reaches the Supreme Court.

In the meantime, it's a dangerous usurpation of state power by the rogue federal government under a wannabe dictator.
