Independent Senator Angus King sends shockwaves through D.C. by exposing the true cost of the Iran War on CNN - and it's so much worse than we thought. The cat's really out of the bag now... "I believe the $50 billion estimate is more accurate. That's the one that I've been hearing until yesterday," King said. The Defense Department's acting chief financial officer, Jules Hurst III, claimed during a hearing yesterday before the House Armed Services committee that Trump's war has only cost $25 billion so far. King doesn't buy that narrative for a second. He said that the conflict appears to be costing American taxpayers "a billion dollars a day" and has been ongoing for nearly two months now. "There's a tremendous amount of repair necessary at American facilities throughout the Middle East that were damaged by Iran," said King. "Not to mention the replenishment of the massive amount of ordinance that's been expended in the war and also the deployment of thousands of troops and ships and airplanes and all of the military assets that have been deployed to the region, so it's a big number." And then came the hammer blow- "I'm going to try to make some inquiry into what they based their estimate on, because $25 billion is considerably below all the other estimates I've been seeing for the past two months," he said. It's now painfully obvious that the Trump administration is downplaying the real cost of the war to prevent an already unpopular war from growing even more unpopular. According to CNN, the Pentagon has been excluding the cost of repairing damages to military bases in their assessments. $50 billion and no end in sight. Meanwhile, Trump and his Republican cronies are relentlessly gutting the social safety net. Apparently, there's no money for healthcare, childcare, or education but there's endless cash for bombs.
