Raytheon and United Technologies announce $121bn merger United Technologies and defense contractor Raytheon have agreed a $121bn merger that will create the world's second-largest defense contractor. The new company, to be called Raytheon Technologies, which will make Tomahawk missiles, the F-35 fighter jet and space suits for astronauts among other items, would have sales of about $74bn in 2019. It will be the second largest defense contractor behind Boeing and ahead of Lockheed Martin. The merger, the largest of the year so far, will have to be approved by competition authorities and was questioned by president Donald Trump on Monday. The terrorists flew two of the planes into two skyscrapers at the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact caused the buildings to catch fire and collapse. Another plane destroyed part of the Pentagon (the U.S. military headquarters) in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Officials believe that the terrorists on that plane intended to destroy either the White House or the U.S. Capitol. Passengers on the plane fought the terrorists and prevented them from reaching their goal. In all, nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks.
