Stop Whining About 'False Balance' Everyone wants to blame reporters for the rise of Donald Trump. How about the media consumer? News media outlets are increasingly coming under fire for the sin of "false balance" or "false equivalency." The New York Times, one of the outlets most often accused of this offense, recently defined the term: "The practice of journalists who, in their zeal to be fair, present each side of a debate as equally credible, even when the factual evidence is stacked heavily on one side." The crime of The Times, according to some of its readers, has been its coverage of the Clinton email and Clinton Foundation stories. As one Times reader put it, "There's too much at stake in this election for the media to stoke the belief that Hillary's mistakes (which she has definitely made) are even close to par with Trump's." ... Read more Elizabeth Warren Slams Wells Fargo CEO Stumpf: "You Should Resign, You Should Be Criminally Investigated" As was widely expected, the main event during today's John Stumpf hearing before the Senate Banking Committee was the moments when anti-bank crusader, Elizabeth Warren would get to the mic. She did not hold back, and immediately launched into a full-blown attack on the one topic Americans find most disturbing: the utter lack of accountability, despite Stumpf's repeaeted protestations to the contrary. "Since this massive year's long scam came to light you have said 'I am accountable', but what have you done to hold yourself accountable? Have you resigned? Have you returned one nickel of the money you earned while this scandal was going on?" After Stumpf failed to respond, Warren replied in his stead: "I will take that as a no." When Stumpf confirmed that he has not fired a single senior executives, Warren slammed what he called "gutless leadership." ... Read more C-SPAN | Sen. Warren to Wells Fargo CEO: "You should resign." Syria Burning: A Short History of a Catastrophe by Charles Glass
Since the upsurge of the Arab Spring in 2011, the Syrian civil war has claimed in excess of 200,000 lives, with an estimated 8 million Syrians, more than a third of the country's population, forced to flee their homes. Militant Sunni groups, such as ISIS, have taken control of large swathes of the nation. The impact of this catastrophe is now being felt on the streets of Europe and the United States. Veteran Middle East expert Charles Glass combines reportage, analysis, and history to provide an accessible overview of the origins and permutations defining the conflict. He also gives a powerful argument for why the West has failed to get to grips with the consequences of the crisis. These Are The Faces Of European Regions Facing Depopulation Today A demographic crisis is unfolding across Europe, with birth rates plummeting at alarming rates. For a photo project titled "Negative Zero," English-Swedish artist and journalist Anastasia Taylor-Lind grabbed her camera and embarked on a road trip to photograph some of the communities hardest hit by the disaster. Driving from London to the country of Georgia, Taylor-Lind visited a number of cities with declining populations in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Russia, and the Caucasus. "I think the answer is I don't remember three years of it," he candidly admitted. "So none of those... somewhere between season three and six." "You can't have a drug problem for 30 years and then expect to have it be solved in 28 days," adding, "Getting sober is a really hard thing to do." *DN | A Debate on Empire: Is Donald Trump One Terrorist Attack Away from the Presidency? (09/19/16) [7:22]
Ralph Nader, former presidential candidate, discusses what expanding the presidential debate to include third-party candidates would mean for the discussion of this weekend's attacks in New Jersey and New York. Nader says, "Brute force doesn't work. ... State terrorism kills far more people than stateless terrorism." He says Clinton is "more systemically hawkish" and Trump is "unpredictably belligerent."

*DR | Why Maureen Dowd Calls 2016 "The Year Of Voting Dangerously" (09/20/16) [1hr]
Maureen Dowd has been writing about politics for The New York Times for the past 30 years. Dowd is known for her acerbic style and seeming delight in mocking political foibles and hubris whenever she can. The 2016 race for president has offered up a mother lode of material for Dowd's weekly column. She skewers both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, but is perceived by some to be harder on the latter. Many of her recent columns appear in a new book, along with essays from two of Dowd's conservative siblings and some fresh material of her own. Guest host Michel Martin sits down for a conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Maureen Dowd.

Lindsey Graham
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said the quiet part aloud on why he’s still so close to former President Donald Trump: because we can use him for our goals. "President Trump has gotten people who wouldn't give me or Romney or anybody else the time of day. They believe he is on their side," the senator told the America First Agenda Summit crowd on Tuesday in Washington, D.C.

AI - Artificial Intelligence
AIArtificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, as opposed to the natural intelligence displayed by animals including humans. AI research has been defined as the field of study of intelligent agents, which refers to any system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of achieving its goals.
The term "artificial intelligence" had previously been used to describe machines that mimic and display "human" cognitive skills that are associated with the human mind, such as "learning" and "problem-solving". This definition has since been rejected by major AI researchers who now describe AI in terms of rationality and acting rationally, which does not limit how intelligence can be articulated.

Quantum mechanics
Quantum mechanics is a fundamental theory in physics that provides a description of the physical properties of nature at the scale of atoms and subatomic particles. It is the foundation of all quantum physics including quantum chemistry, quantum field theory, quantum technology, and quantum information science.
Classical physics, the collection of theories that existed before the advent of quantum mechanics, describes many aspects of nature at an ordinary (macroscopic) scale, but is not sufficient for describing them at small (atomic and subatomic) scales. Most theories in classical physics can be derived from quantum mechanics as an approximation valid at large (macroscopic) scale.

Wall Street and Banksters
Wall Street is an eight-block-long street running roughly northwest to southeast from Broadway to South Street, at the East River, in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan in New York City. Over time, the term has become a metonym for the financial markets of the United States as a whole, the American financial services industry (even if financial firms are not physically located there), or New York-based financial interests.

Nukes
Nuclear weapons have come a long way and come in all types of different sizes. Some are relatively small while others are enormous, so big they boggle the mind at what they can be capable of, i.e. the Soviet 'Tsar Bomba' is/was 3,000 times greater than the Hiroshima bomb.

911
On September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists attacked the Unites States. They hijacked four airplanes in mid-flight. The terrorists flew two of the planes into two skyscrapers at the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact caused the buildings to catch fire and collapse. Another plane destroyed part of the Pentagon (the U.S. military headquarters) in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Officials believe that the terrorists on that plane intended to destroy either the White House or the U.S. Capitol. Passengers on the plane fought the terrorists and prevented them from reaching their goal. In all, nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks.

The Vietnam War
Ken Burns and Lynn Novick's ten-part, 18-hour documentary series, THE VIETNAM WAR, tells the epic story of one of the most consequential, divisive, and controversial events in American history as it has never before been told on film. Visceral and immersive, the series explores the human dimensions of the war through revelatory testimony of nearly 80 witnesses from all sides--Americans who fought in the war and others who opposed it, as well as combatants and civilians from North and South Vietnam. Ten years in the making, the series includes rarely seen and digitally re-mastered archival footage from sources around the globe, photographs taken by some of the most celebrated photojournalists of the 20th Century, historic television broadcasts, evocative home movies, and secret audio recordings from inside the Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon administrations.
