Senators saw only a small fraction of the records relating to Trump's Supreme Court nominee. The public saw even fewer.

From the outset of Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation hearings, Democrats have hammered home this message: The Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee are making it impossible for committee members to probe the views of President Donald Trump's nominee on the issues he will ultimately rule on by shrouding the nominee in secrecy.

The U.S. economy added 201,000 jobs in August and the unemployment rate held at 3.9%. Wage growth accelerated to 2.9%. Economists surveyed by Bloomberg forecast 191,000 new jobs and the unemployment rate falling to 3.8%.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh began his confirmation process on Tuesday. And while he stated in opening remarks that "the Supreme Court must never, never be viewed as a partisan institution," subsequent court activity suggested otherwise.
On Thursday, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey testified before Congress about disinformation, privacy, censorship, and election interference on their platforms. Google, in its absence from the hearings, garnered a lot of attention.
Washington Post associate editor Bob Woodward rocked the White House and beyond on Tuesday after excerpts from his new book, Fear: Trump in the White House, leaked to reporters. In line with other tell-all books like Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury or Omarosa Manigault Newman's Unhinged, Woodward depicts a White House in turmoil.
A day later, The New York Times published a shocking op-ed by an anonymous "senior administration official." The writer lambasts President Trump and reveals that "many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations."
Finally, The New Yorker drummed up controversy after rescinding Steven Bannon's invitation to headline its upcoming festival.

The reporting drew "for the first time on interviews with Buddhist villagers who confessed to torching Rohingya homes, burying bodies and killing Muslims."
The United Kingdom leveled charges against two Russians. They are alleged to have used a weapons-grade nerve agent for "the attempted murder of the Russian former intelligence officer, Sergei V. Skripal; of Yulia S. Skripal, his daughter; and of a police officer, Det. Sgt. Nick Bailey, who was sickened while investigating the case." The British government identified them as active members of Russian intelligence.
A devastating museum fire in Brazil meant the loss of countless cultural artifacts. The museum held the largest anthropological history collection in the Americas. But some museum officials say that the fire could have been prevented, according to The New York Times.

On September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists attacked the Unites States. They hijacked four airplanes in mid-flight. The terrorists flew two of the planes into two skyscrapers at the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact caused the buildings to catch fire and collapse. Another plane destroyed part of the Pentagon (the U.S. military headquarters) in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Officials believe that the terrorists on that plane intended to destroy either the White House or the U.S. Capitol. Passengers on the plane fought the terrorists and prevented them from reaching their goal. In all, nearly 3,000 people were killed in the 9/11 attacks.
